What this is
Eternal Stairs is a voice chat room shared with strangers. It is a toy, made for its own sake. There is no company behind it, no monetisation, and no support. It may stop working or disappear at any time, without notice.
You must be 18 or over
This is unmoderated live voice with strangers. You must be at least 18 years old to enter. If you are not, leave now.
What is recorded
Nothing is sent anywhere unless somebody presses Report. But while you are in a room, your own browser is continuously holding the last two minutes of what you have heard.
That buffer lives in your browser's memory only. It is overwritten continuously, it is never written to disk, and it disappears the moment you close the tab. It is not uploaded, not analysed, and not readable by this site — unless you press Report, at which point the two minutes your browser is holding are sent along with the report so that whoever reads it can hear what happened.
Two consequences worth being plain about. If somebody else in your room reports, the recording they send contains your voice, if you spoke in the couple of minutes before they pressed it — and you are not told. And because the clip comes from a reporter's browser rather than from the server, a determined person could tamper with one; it is evidence to be weighed, not proof.
Recordings are attached to reports, are never playable by users, and are deleted when their report ages out of the most recent 200.
Nobody is listening live. Treat this room as unmoderated in real time, and leave if you are uncomfortable. Leaving is always the fastest remedy available to you.
What is stored
- Your name and your place in a room, for as long as you are connected. Both are discarded when you leave. Names are assigned by the server from a fixed wordlist; you cannot choose one, and it does not persist.
- A hash of your IP address. Your actual IP address is never written to storage. The hash exists only so that someone who has been banned can be kept out.
- Reports, as described above: two names, a room, a timestamp, and the reported person's IP hash — the last so that a report can actually be acted on. Without it a report names somebody whose name has already ceased to exist. The most recent 200 are kept.
- A record of dead rooms — how deep each got, how many people it held at once, when it was created and destroyed. No names. This is the only thing here intended to last, and it is what the all-time record is drawn from.
- A reconnect token in your browser's session storage, so a dropped connection can rejoin the same room. It disappears when you close the tab.
There are no accounts, no cookies for tracking, no analytics, and no third-party advertising. Voice is carried by LiveKit and the site runs on Cloudflare; both necessarily handle your connection in order to work at all.
Behaving
Do not use this to harass, threaten, or abuse people. Do not use it to break the law.
Available to you at any time: mute anybody individually, which is private and immediate and tells them nothing; report them, with the limits above; or leave. Any room can also be closed outright, and any visitor banned, at our discretion and without explanation.
No warranty
Provided as-is, with no guarantee of availability, privacy, or fitness for anything. You use it at your own risk. To the extent the law allows, no liability is accepted for anything that happens here or as a result of it.
